By Laura Johnson | October 17, 2019 09:45am EDTAs you may have noticed, I’m going to be a little bit less than happy about the lack of any major news from this weekend’s Braves-Red Sox game.
Sure, the Cubs won the World Series on Sunday, but the Braves still haven’t been able to get the job done.
I know it’s an obvious one, but I’m getting old, and I’m sick of waiting around for the world’s greatest team to lose.
I’m tired of seeing the Braves and Yankees get swept in a pennant race, which they did last year, or of seeing two of the top three teams in baseball lose to each other, which happened to the Braves in 2013 and the Yankees in 2017.
That’s what’s so frustrating to me about baseball: We’ve been living in this world for decades and decades, and we don’t know when the next big thing is going to hit.
This season has been one of the most frustrating of them all.
The Braves and Red Sox will play a one-game series on Sunday night, and it will be the first time since 2007 that the teams haven’t played in the same ballpark since the 2001 NLDS.
There are going to have to be some adjustments made, and there are going-to-be-adjustments-made scenarios in this series.
That said, I think the Braves have a chance to win this series and win a series-clinching win for the first-ever World Series title in Atlanta, and for the fourth straight year, they should.
That being said, if they can’t close out this series against the Yankees, it will leave us with a series that could go either way.
In a four-team league, you can only get two series in the first four rounds, and this series will almost certainly end up going either way in the final game of the regular season.
The Yankees will be on the hook for $80 million of that amount because of the World Trade Organization (WTO) restrictions.
I expect the Yankees to win in seven games, but there’s a lot to like about the Braves.
Here’s what you need to know about the two teams.
Can the Braves Keep It Close?
The Braves haven’t won a playoff series since 2014.
They’ve won one of their last six postseason games, and they’ve only lost two games since the 2017 World Series.
It’s a pretty good run.
The team has scored a ton of runs in those six playoff games, with the team scoring a combined 15.8 runs per game in those five playoff games.
The only time it hasn’t happened was when the team went 2-1 in the regular-season finale against the Cubs.
The biggest thing that stands out about this run is that the Braves won the first game of their series against both the Yankees and Cubs.
They were up 3-0 at the time, but their offense was dead-last in the NL in runs scored.
That series was a disaster, as the Braves struggled offensively, going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
In the four games since, the team has come back to win the series in eight straight games.
How Are the Braves Playing the Yankees?
In all likelihood, you’ve heard of the Yankees.
They haven’t gotten to the World Baseball Classic since the 2010 season, and their last postseason appearance came in 2013.
They also haven’t had a winning record in the playoffs since 2008.
In fact, they’ve gone to five straight ALDS appearances since the 2015 World Series, but haven’t advanced past the first round since 2007.
There’s no doubt that the Yankees have been a lot better this year, and that’s a positive, but they’ve been a bunch of games behind the Braves over the course of their season.
I think this is one of those series where it will really come down to the final two innings.
In all probability, the Braves will win the last two innings, but it’ll be a tight one.
The Giants, Tigers, Royals, Royals and Royals all scored five runs or more in the fourth inning or later of their postseason games this year.
It was a rare occurrence in this year’s playoffs, and the Braves are one of a handful of teams that have been able with their offense to take control of the game.
If they can take control in the last four innings, then they’ll have the advantage, but if they don’t get the three-run lead in the fifth, they could very well be done in. 3.
What to Watch for in the Last Four Games of the Series?
As I mentioned earlier, the Yankees are the team with the best chance of winning this series, and when the Braves play the Yankees again on Sunday and the final three games of the series, I expect a dramatic finish.
The last four games of this series are going a little different than the others.
The game that will decide the series is going.
